God said to leave my girlfriend

I won’t give my heart to another girl until God shows me it’s my wife.
— Eric Ludy

It was past midnight.

My family was fast asleep, and the house was wrapped in silence. I stood alone on the balcony, staring into the moonlit sky, carrying a heaviness in my heart.

Finally, I prayed:

“God, I think I’ve made a mistake. I can’t pull away from this relationship on my own. I need Your help.”

What I didn’t realize then was that this quiet, desperate prayer was about to set a divine intervention into motion.

Before Lilian, There Was Someone Else

Years before I met my wife, Lilian, I was in a relationship with someone who did not share my faith or passion for God.

We genuinely cared for each other. But deep down, I sensed something was wrong.

I knew this relationship was not aligned with the direction God wanted my life to take.

Still, I stayed.

Part of me felt too emotionally invested to walk away. I feared hurting her. I kept convincing myself that perhaps things would somehow work out.

At that stage of my life, my walk with God had become weak and compromised. I was making decisions I wasn’t proud of.

Yet despite all of that, I still longed for God.

Deep inside, I knew He had not stopped caring about me.

That’s why I prayed that night.

And just two weeks later, everything changed.

God Sends a Prophetess

A woman from Jaipur—someone known to operate in prophetic gifting—unexpectedly contacted my parents. She had just arrived in Delhi and said she felt strongly led by God to stay with our family for a few days.

It sounded unusual, but my parents welcomed her.

During a prayer time with my parents, she suddenly began speaking about my hidden relationship—something no one in my family knew about.

She described the situation with surprising accuracy.

My secret was exposed.

I was stunned.

My parents were upset because they already had concerns about the relationship, and now everything was suddenly out in the open.

Then the prophetess looked directly at me and said:

“She is not the one God has for you. Your lives are moving in different directions. You think this relationship might work, but it won’t.”

Her words were firm, yet compassionate.

Then she said something I never forgot:

“If you leave now, the pain will be temporary—a scar that eventually fades. But if you continue down this road, the consequences will be much deeper and longer-lasting. God will forgive you, yes, but some wounds may remain for years.”

Then she gently asked:

“Can’t you leave her… for Jesus?”

That question pierced my heart.

A Painful Goodbye

At that moment, I knew this was more than coincidence.

God was intervening.

Not to shame me—but to rescue me.

I realized He cared deeply about the direction my life was heading. He saw consequences I could not yet see.

And suddenly, I understood that the prayer I had whispered on the balcony had been heard.

The very next day, I ended the relationship.

It was painful.

It hurt her deeply, and it hurt me too.

But deep inside, I knew it was the right decision for both of us.

To avoid getting emotionally pulled back in, I cut off communication completely. She tried reaching out through mutual friends, but I asked them to help her understand that I couldn’t go back.

“Why Did You Go to Such Lengths?”

Afterward, I kept reflecting on everything that had happened.

Why would God intervene so dramatically?

Why send someone from another city?

Why expose my secret so publicly?

And the answer I kept arriving at was this:

Because He loved me.

God wasn’t trying to embarrass me. He was trying to wake me up before I went too far down a path that would ultimately hurt both of us.

As I reflected on that, something unexpected happened:

I fell more deeply in love with God.

I began trusting Him in a new way.

I realized that when God says “No,” He is often protecting us from pain we cannot yet foresee and leading us toward something far better.

That season was bittersweet.

I had broken someone’s heart.

But at the same time, my relationship with God became deeper and more real than ever before.

Eventually, she moved on with her life.

And mine was completely rerouted.

Even my friends noticed the sudden transformation in me. I hadn’t just walked away from a relationship—I had walked away from other unhealthy patterns and compromises too.

Looking back now, I’m deeply grateful I listened to God’s warning.

It became one of the most important turning points in my life.

A Promise I Made to God

During that season, I made a vow to God.

I prayed:

“God, I trust You. I know You love me and want what is best for me. I will wait for the woman You have for me—no matter how long it takes. Just let me know when I meet her.”

That prayer became deeply personal to me.

“The Girl God Has for You Is Not in India”

Interestingly, the prophetess had also told me:

“The girl God has for you is not in India.”

About a year later, a young woman from Australia came to stay at our home for a while.

Naturally, I wondered:

Could this be the one?

But I had learned something important by then: I didn’t want emotions to lead me ahead of God.

I wanted clarity.

So I stayed cautious and waited for God’s direction rather than rushing ahead emotionally.

Then one night, I had a dream in which I clearly heard myself telling a friend:

“She’s not the one.”

And beyond the dream, I sensed the same conviction in my heart.

Not long after that, she invited me to attend a youth camp with her. Part of me wanted to go simply because I liked being around her.

But I declined.

I knew that if there was no future there, I shouldn’t feed emotional attachment unnecessarily.

A few weeks later, she returned to Australia.

Enter Lilian

Then I met Lilian at a church in Delhi.

She is Indian and had never lived abroad—which later made me smile when I reflected on the earlier prophecy.

What drew me to her immediately was her deep love for Jesus.

We shared the same biblical convictions, the same passion for God, and the same desire to live for things that matter eternally.

Today, one of the greatest blessings in my life is that my wife and I genuinely enjoy pursuing God together.

We pray together.

We seek God together.

We challenge and strengthen each other spiritually.

And over the years, God has continued shaping both of us from the inside out.

I often say that I am a beneficiary of her goodness.

I truly love her.

Looking back, I think the prophetess may have interpreted her vision literally. The church where I eventually met Lilian had people from many nations and backgrounds. Perhaps she saw that international environment in part.

But regardless of how it was interpreted, God knew exactly what He was doing all along.

The Turning Point

Ending that earlier relationship was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.

But it was also one of the most life-giving.

It realigned my life with God’s purpose.

It protected my future.

It deepened my trust in God.

And it prepared me for the relationship I was truly meant to have.

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that God intervened—and that I listened.

So if you are currently in a season of wrestling, confusion, or difficult choices, remember this:

God’s “No” is not rejection.

Sometimes, it is protection.

Sometimes, it is redirection.

And often, it is His way of leading us toward a far better “Yes.”
