I asked my friend, “Are you sure about this? Did you pray about it? What do you sense God is saying?”
He replied, “Yeah, I feel I should go ahead with it. I have peace about it.”
My friend was considering investing in a land or property deal in Jaipur. To get started, he needed to pay around ₹50,000 INR, so he went ahead and made the payment.
A few months later, he called me and said the project had completely fallen through and the money was gone. He had tried contacting the person involved, but it seemed there was no realistic way to recover it.
I remember thinking to myself:
But you said you had peace about this. You prayed about it.
Yet looking back, I don’t think he had actually discerned God’s counsel clearly. It may have simply been a strong feeling or emotional excitement rather than genuine direction from God. The decision had been made too quickly.
I felt genuinely sad for him because he wasn’t financially secure at the time. In fact, he had only recently managed to clear some long-pending credit card debt.
As I reflected on the situation, I suddenly sensed strongly in my spirit that this money should not simply disappear like that.
I felt God impressing on my heart that the amount could come back to him.
So my wife and I quietly began praying about it.
For many months, we consistently prayed and declared that the money would be restored. We believed God could work behind the scenes, orchestrate circumstances, and move on my friend’s behalf.
Interestingly, my friend had no idea we were praying.
As far as he was concerned, the situation was over. He had already accepted the loss and moved on emotionally.
But we chose to partner with what we believed God was saying instead of accepting defeat immediately.
Then, nearly a year later, my friend called me unexpectedly.
He told me he had somehow recovered the entire amount.
Not only that, he said he had decided to bless some relatives living in Jaipur by giving the recovered money to them.
I smiled quietly to myself.
To this day, my friend still doesn’t know that my wife and I had been persistently praying for that situation behind the scenes all those months.
God restored it.
And moments like these remind me how amazing it is when God gives insight or direction about situations in life. Sometimes it feels as though He gives you a glimpse into what is possible beyond what circumstances appear to say.
When we correctly discern what God is saying and pursue it in faith with perseverance, we often begin to see unexpected outcomes.
Don’t Rush Into Decisions
One thing I’ve learned is that many unnecessary struggles in life happen because we either fail to seek God’s counsel or ignore it when He gives it.
Sometimes we move too quickly.
Sometimes emotions cloud our judgment.
Sometimes we mistake excitement, fear, pressure, or personal desire for the voice of God.
And those hasty decisions can cost us time, money, peace, and relationships.
Of course, God is merciful.
Even when we make mistakes, He can still redeem situations, restore losses, and bring good out of our failures. Sometimes His mercy goes far beyond what we deserve.
But not every consequence disappears instantly.
There are moments when we still have to walk through the results of our choices, even while experiencing God’s forgiveness and grace.
That’s why learning to wait patiently for God’s counsel is so important.
We do not always have to learn everything through pain and regret.
And when we do make mistakes, we shouldn’t hide them out of embarrassment. Often, the lessons we learned through failure can become wisdom and protection for someone else.
