What do we need to be saved from? Wrath. God is justly angry at sin—yet He also loves sinners. That may sound contradictory, but it reflects something we experience in part ourselves.
Have you ever been angry with someone you love—a parent, a sibling, a close friend?
In a far greater and perfect way, God holds both justice and love together. And He has made a way to fully uphold both: through the Gospel. In Christ, God’s wrath against sin is satisfied, and His mercy toward sinners is freely given.
Having considered what God has done on behalf of sinful humanity, the question becomes personal: how should we respond? What must we do to be saved?
Scripture gives a clear answer. It calls every person to:
Repent of sin
Trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ
So examine yourself honestly.
Are you a sinner? Do you recognize not only specific wrong actions, but a heart inclined away from God? Do you see your life as one that has broken His law?
Don’t minimize it. Don’t hide behind the idea that you are “basically a good person.” If we cling to that, we miss the very reason Christ came—for sinners.
Consider these questions as a way to test whether repentance is truly taking root in your life:
Do you think differently about God?
Do you see Him—not yourself—as the rightful center of all things? Do you desire to seek Him and know Him?
Do you think differently about sin?
Do you recognize sin as serious and offensive to God? Do you feel genuine sorrow over it? Do you long to be free—not just from its consequences, but from its power? Are you willing to confess it and turn to God for mercy?
Do you think differently about salvation?
Do you understand that you cannot make yourself right with God by your own effort? Do you trust completely in Christ alone? Have you let go of confidence in your own goodness?
If you can say yes to these—or even see them beginning to grow in you—this points to something deeper: God is already at work in your heart, opening your eyes to the truth and drawing you to Himself.
