While in Kuala Lumpur, I stayed up late into the night, contemplating, praying, and taking in the city lights. My heart was heavy with questions, frustrations, and inner struggles.
As I sensed the presence of God, I stretched out my hand toward my wife, who was fast asleep in the other room, and prayed for her. Then I whispered to Jesus a few lines from one of my poems, Journey to a Beautiful Mind:
O God, if I could walk with You
On the shores of this sea
It was the cry of my heart — to meet Him, to hear His perspective on everything I was wrestling with. Eventually, I went to bed around 3 a.m.
The next morning, my wife told me she had a dream that night.
She said she was sitting in a car, looking out the window, and saw me standing on the shore of a sea, fighting against a demonic force. Above me was a cloud, and within that cloud was the Host of Heaven — an angelic being hovering over me, waiting for my command.
I was deeply moved when I heard this. Isn’t it amazing how Jesus responded through a dream that very night? And even more striking was that He set the scene by the seashore — the exact imagery I had spoken to Him about only hours earlier. It felt like His way of reassuring me that He had heard every word.
Take Authority
Sometimes we think we are merely struggling with negative thoughts, when in reality there may also be a spiritual battle taking place — forces of fear, lies, doubt, and oppression working against our minds. There are moments when the struggle is more than psychological; it is spiritual warfare.
Through the dream, I felt Jesus was showing me that I was not alone. He had already provided heavenly help, but I needed to exercise the authority I have in Him. I thought simply talking to Jesus about the situation would be enough, but He was also teaching me to stand firm and take authority.
The heavenly host is described in Scripture as the armies of Heaven — heavenly beings sent to assist God’s people. As sons and daughters of God, when we walk in faith and exercise spiritual authority, Heaven moves behind the scenes.
When we speak God’s Word over our situations, we align ourselves with His truth rather than fear, anxiety, or hopelessness. Faith rises, peace comes, and the lies of the enemy lose their grip.
The enemy seeks to build strongholds through deception, fear, and discouragement, but God’s power tears those strongholds down and clears the path for us to move forward in His purposes.
Not every dream is from God. Some dreams can simply come from our own thoughts and emotions, while others may have darker influences. But dreams from God can carry insight, encouragement, warning, direction, or reassurance.
Angelic help and protection are supernatural realities that often work unseen in a believer’s life. Throughout Scripture, angels appear to people in visions, dreams, and physical encounters. Some bring messages from God. Some are involved in healing, signs, and wonders. And some are warrior angels — part of Heaven’s army, sent to fight against demonic forces and protect God’s people.
