Troy Brewer:
I was with my son last week, and he and I went to lunch. I just said, “Ben, I want to ask you a question.” He said, “What?”
I asked, “Man, if you knew that Jesus Christ was coming back this decade—if God Almighty spoke to you and told you, and I mean really spoke to you—and said, ‘Ben, I want you to know that I’m going to come back in the 20’s, that’s when I’m going to come back,’ what would change in your life?
What is it that is not primary that would become primary?
What is secondary that would become primary?
What is primary that would no longer be primary if you knew Jesus was coming back this decade?”
Imagine someone saying, “133 days from right now, you’re going to take your last earthly breath.” You might think, “Well, I don’t receive that,” and that’s fine.
I’m not saying it’s a decree; I’m just asking: what would change if you knew that?
One of the things that would change is all the things currently prioritized in your life because of drama and anxiety—they’d go out the window.
This is how you apply your heart to wisdom: whatever time I have left, I’m going to get it done. I’m going to walk the walk. I want to get some stuff done. I am going to live like Jesus is coming back tomorrow, and I’m going to live this day to the fullest extent I possibly can.
I want to be the best husband I can be. I want to be the best dad I can be. I want to have an encounter with God. I want to get my praise and worship on. I want to make a tremendous difference. Let’s go! Let’s go!
See, it doesn’t make you want to shut down. It makes you want to get your act together.
Proverbs 1:32 says: “For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.”
I want to tell you—you’re being just like that.
There are things you’re missing that are causing damage, not just to you, but to so many people.
I want to encourage you: wake up. Get full of the Holy Spirit. I’m going to pray for you, that you would not be full of anxiety, that you would not partner with the spirit of halt, and that you would be full of joy and the Holy Spirit. So that when the Holy Spirit gently nudges you, you would have the character to respond with a true sense of urgency about what God Almighty is doing.
Because man, we need you. Your family needs you. This generation needs you.
Whatever country you’re watching this from needs you to be full of the Holy Spirit, and when the Holy Spirit gently nudges you, you make a big deal out of that.
