Can God bless us beyond our natural ability to earn a living?
Can we receive gifts from God that we cannot boastfully claim were earned solely through our hard work or performance?
There was a season in my life when I used to wonder whether it was truly possible to prosper by grace—to receive blessings not merely through striving and labor, but through God’s unmerited favor and goodness.
During my years as a freelance web developer, I experienced God’s favor in a remarkable way. I rarely struggled to find clients. My focus was on seeking God and pursuing His purposes for my life, and somehow, my needs were consistently taken care of.
There were even moments when unexpected money would appear in my account from surprising sources. Of course, I worked diligently on the projects God opened for me, but these additional blessings felt like little reminders of His goodness—unexpected gifts along the way.
But a few years ago, God did something even more amazing for us.
A Home We Never Planned For
At the time, my wife and I had no savings to buy a home. We weren’t even praying, planning, or thinking about purchasing one.
But suddenly, God’s favor broke into our lives in an unexpected way.
Looking back now, I can clearly see how God orchestrated every step ahead of time. At the time, we could only see one piece at a time, but later the full picture became visible.
I’ve realized something powerful: when we follow God’s nudges step by step, we often discover later that He had already gone ahead of us, arranging things in our favor.
The Move to DLF New Town Heights
After living for three years at DLF Park Place in Gurgaon and paying around ₹50,000–55,000 in rent, I sensed God leading us to move to DLF New Town Heights, which was around 25 kilometers away from central Gurgaon.
At the time, my wife’s mother and brother were staying with us and sharing part of the rent. When we told them about the move, they were hesitant because the new location felt too far away.
For a moment, I considered staying back in Gurgaon for convenience.
But deep inside, I strongly sensed that God was leading us to move.
Eventually, my wife’s family decided to remain in Gurgaon and rent another apartment closer to the city. It felt emotional parting ways, but I still sensed peace about moving forward.
The rent at DLF New Town Heights was significantly lower—around ₹18,000—and the apartment was spacious with four bedrooms and beautiful views. At the time, I imagined we might live there for many years.
I had no idea God was already preparing the next chapter.
An Unexpected Financial Surprise
Around that same period, I wanted to help my mother-in-law with the security deposit for her new rental apartment. I needed some extra money and was wondering how to manage it.
Then, completely out of nowhere, I received an email from someone in the United States asking whether I was interested in selling one of my website domains.
I had purchased that domain years earlier for around ₹1,700 and had completely forgotten about it.
I casually quoted ₹30,000 for it.
To my surprise, they agreed immediately.
The timing felt perfect. That unused domain had been sitting idle for three years, and suddenly it became the exact provision we needed at the right moment.
My Car Breaks Down
After moving to DLF New Town Heights, my old car—one I had purchased from my dad—started developing problems.
At the time, my wife and I were considering skipping our planned Kerala vacation for our 10th wedding anniversary because we thought we might need to save money to buy a new car.
Then one day, outside a shopping mall, the car broke down completely.
This time, instead of calling a local mechanic, I contacted the Maruti roadside assistance team. They inspected the vehicle and told me the issue was minor—I only needed to replace the battery.
I was incredibly relieved.
There was no need to spend money on another car, which meant we could still go ahead with our anniversary trip to Kerala.
Again, at the time, I didn’t realize how important that trip would become.
Another Unexpected Turn
Meanwhile, another series of events was unfolding in our family.
My mother’s sister had sold her house and entrusted the money to my mother. The original plan was for my sister to use that amount as a down payment and take a home loan to purchase a house for herself.
But unexpectedly, my sister decided not to go ahead with the plan.
My parents then approached me and asked whether I would consider using the money toward buying a home instead.
Initially, I hesitated.
But once again, I sensed God nudging us to consider moving to Kerala.
Finalizing Our First Home
While celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in Kerala, we began casually visiting a few ready-to-move apartment projects.
And during that very trip, we unexpectedly finalized our first home and paid the token advance.
Everything moved quickly after that.
Once we returned, I applied for a home loan, and it was approved without difficulty.
Thanks to the massive down payment of around ₹40 lakhs—and another ₹9–10 lakhs used for furnishing—the EMI remained manageable. Combined with the lower rent at DLF New Town Heights, the financial burden never became overwhelming.
Ironically, we stayed in that Gurgaon apartment for only six months before moving into our new home in Kerala.
Looking Back, It Was All Connected
Later, when I reflected on the sequence of events, I was amazed by how intentionally everything had unfolded.
God first moved us into a lower-rent apartment so we could comfortably manage the future home loan EMI.
My car problem was resolved at exactly the right time, allowing us to go on our anniversary trip to Kerala—the very trip during which we found our future home.
The timing was so precise that if we had delayed by even a day or two, we may have lost the apartment. Later, my neighbor told me he had also been planning to purchase the same property.
We simply happened to be there at the right place and the right time.
It also turned out to be wise that my wife’s family stayed back in Gurgaon because we moved again only six months later. Relocating twice would have been difficult for them.
The domain sale, my sister’s decision, the move to the cheaper apartment, the repaired car—everything fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
Looking back, it honestly felt as though God had gone ahead and arranged everything for us.
God Thinks Ahead
One thing I’ve learned is that God rarely reveals the entire picture at once.
He leads us step by step.
At the time, many of these decisions seemed ordinary or unrelated. But later, we realized how deeply interconnected they were.
Just imagine receiving nearly ₹50 lakhs toward purchasing a home as an unexpected gift. Most couples work and save for 10–15 years to reach that point.
At that stage of my life, I was not some extremely high-income earner capable of easily buying property through my own financial strength.
This was far beyond what I could have planned or achieved naturally.
To us, it felt like God’s favor breaking into our ordinary lives in a very tangible way.
It almost felt like God gifted us a home for our 10th wedding anniversary.
Seek God First
Jesus said:
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
God’s kingdom often operates very differently from the world’s system.
In heaven, everything is already provided for. We do not earn survival there through labor or currency. God gives because of who He is—a loving Father.
The Bible says that God rewards those who diligently seek Him.
Can God still surprise people with unexpected favor and provision when they sincerely pursue Him and His purposes?
I believe He can.
Personally, I have never chased blessings as my primary goal. I seek God and His purposes, and I remain grateful for whatever He chooses to add along the way.
And this is not merely about material blessings.
True prosperity also includes growing in wisdom, understanding God more deeply, walking in His will, and becoming spiritually transformed.
The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding.
That means following Him step by step, even when we cannot yet see the whole picture.
When we surrender our lives and seek God first, we often discover that He is already taking care of things behind the scenes.
God’s supernatural favor can break into every area of life—finances, family, relationships, creativity, opportunities, and purpose—in ways we could never have predicted.
